Located 21 km from the center of Bonito MS, the visit tour at the Gruta do Lago Azul is a contemplative tour inside the cavern, starts with a 200m trek from the reception to the cavern entrance, at this point the way to get inside is on the rocks of the cavern. While getting in, the cavern counts with 300 to going down the cave so visitors can find the lake with an intense blue water located at the bottom; the stairs are very inclined and are equivalent to 150m of high. During the tour, there are some stop points for the visitant take pictures and rest.
The visitor will have the opportunity to contemplate the rocks, all geological formations, speleothems of different forms and sizes as well as enjoy the view of one of the biggest flooded caverns in the world.
At the end of the stairs, the visitor will have a time for 10 minutes approximately and after that, returns through the same stairs to exit the cave as well as the first trek made at the beginning until arrive to the reception.
Curiosities
On dives in the Gruta do Lago Azul, numerous fossils of extinct animals have been discovered, such as the Giant Laziness, Sabretooth, Mastodonts and other species.
Thus, part of the evolution of our history has been studied by some paleontologists who still seek answers in the Gruta do Lago Azul. (source: Portal Bonito).
There is also a parallel project, which studies a prehistoric crustacean that lives in the waters of the Gruta do Lago Azul, as old as the dinosaurs themselves, it is a freshwater shrimp called Potiicoara Brasiliensis, cataloged in 2002.
